Closure is not deletion or self-exclusion
TAB calls the ordinary action account closure. Its current reactivation page says an ordinarily closed account may later be eligible for reactivation. Closure does not promise erasure of personal data. If preventing future online or phone wagering matters, compare TAB self-exclusion and the BetStop registration guide before choosing.
This guide covers accounts whose fixed TAB jurisdiction is ACT, NSW, NT, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, or Victoria. TAB's current jurisdiction page does not list Western Australia.
Close your TAB Australia account
Prepare only what TAB requires
TAB's current closure page says the account must be verified, have no pending bets, and have its withdrawable balance withdrawn before ordinary closure.
Do not deposit or place another bet to prepare the account. If a pending bet or withdrawal restriction blocks closure, ask TAB what non-gambling step is required.
Close the account in the TAB app
Open More, select My Account, then Close TAB Account. Choose the reason shown, select Next, enter the account password in TAB's own secure screen, then select Confirm. Save the confirmation.
Or close it on the TAB website
Open Menu, select My Account, then Close Account. Choose the reason shown, select Next, enter the password in TAB's secure screen, then select Close Account. Save the confirmation.
Use TAB support if self-service does not work
The same closure page says to call 131 802 if the app cannot close the account. TAB's current operating-hours page lists Customer Service daily from 8:30 a.m. AEDT until the start of the last race; the closing time varies.
TAB also publishes a signed postal request to TAB, GPO Box 4168, Sydney NSW 2001, or a fax to 02 8868 5096. Its closure page asks for the account holder's full name, TAB account number, signature, and date for those written routes.
Account Closure Request

Ordinary closure may be reactivated
TAB's closure page calls the action permanent, but its separate reactivation page says a closed or inactive account may be reactivated through the account creation flow, subject to eligibility. Treat ordinary closure as a weaker barrier than formal self-exclusion or BetStop.
Additional platform details
Take a Break is temporary
TAB's Take a Break page describes a temporary suspension:
- in the app, open Account → Safer Gambling Tools → Take a Break;
- on the website, open Menu → My Account → Safer Gambling Tools → Set up a break;
- while it is active, the account cannot be used to sign in or withdraw, but pending bets remain active;
- TAB says it does not notify the account holder when the break ends.
TAB's current pages conflict on the maximum period: the dedicated Take a Break page says up to six months, while the closure page says up to 30 days. Use only the periods displayed in the signed-in account and save the confirmation.
Take a Break is not ordinary closure, TAB self-exclusion, or BetStop.
Other TAB Australia support channels: 131 802
Self-exclude from TAB Australia
TAB formal self-exclusion
TAB's current self-exclusion page publishes this signed-in route:
- In the app, open More → Safer Gambling Tools → Self Exclusion. On the website, open Menu → My Account → Safer Gambling Tools → Self Exclude.
- Read and accept the declaration.
- Enter the password in TAB's secure screen and select Confirm.
TAB says the exclusion takes effect immediately on confirmation and signs the account out. Its safer-gambling page also publishes 1800 646 132 for self-exclusion or barring help. General Customer Service is 131 802.
TAB says it will close the account, return funds after pending bets settle, and stop marketing during the exclusion. It asks the account holder to identify all TAB wagering accounts and says it will endeavour to identify others; do not assume every account has been found without confirmation. Retail-venue exclusion is a separate, state-based process.
Terms depend on the account jurisdiction
TAB publishes different minimum terms and reactivation rules by state or territory. Its current pages also conflict about the South Australia minimum. Review the rule shown for the account's fixed jurisdiction before confirming; this guide does not substitute one universal duration.
Self-Exclusion Request
Request the exclusion period and scope you want

BetStop is a separate national register
The BetStop registration guide explains the national signup, identity, duration, removal, account, and complaint boundaries. BetStop is free and covers Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers, not only TAB. It can be selected for any period from three months to lifetime. Registration normally uses a mobile number, email address, and an accepted identity document; BetStop provides an assisted route if those documents are not available.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority says covered providers must prevent new accounts and bets, close existing accounts, refund account credit, and stop direct marketing during the exclusion. BetStop does not cover retail wagering venues, casinos, or unlicensed services. A state or territory exclusion is not automatically transferred into BetStop.
BetStop support is 1800 238 786, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. AEST/AEDT, excluding national public holidays. Use the official signup route to register.
What self-exclusion actually does (and doesn't)
It is designed to block play for the period you choose. Whether it covers new sign-ups or can be changed early depends on the operator and jurisdiction; follow the platform-specific details above.
Do not assume self-exclusion deletes account data, stops every message, or covers other sites; exact scope varies. Consider account closure, mailbox controls, and a blocking tool as additional layers.
Stop TAB Australia emails
TAB's current marketing-preferences page publishes three routes:
- in the app, open More → Preferences, turn off Receive marketing, and confirm;
- use Unsubscribe in a promotional email or reply STOP to an SMS;
- call 131 802 to ask TAB to stop marketing, phone, and post.
Necessary account-service, safer-gambling, and legally required messages may continue after marketing is switched off.
If promotional contact continues, keep one example with the sender and date, repeat the opt-out through an official route, and save the confirmation. Do not include gambling history or unnecessary account details.
You can also use your mailbox's search, filter, and bulk-delete controls. Review the privacy terms and current price before granting any third-party cleanup tool access to your inbox.
Frequently asked questions
Does closing a TAB account delete it permanently?
No deletion or data-erasure promise is supported by the current closure material. TAB separately publishes a route that may reactivate an ordinarily closed account. Use the exact term account closure.
Does account closure erase personal data?
No. Tabcorp's current privacy policy explains access, correction, and privacy-complaint routes, but it does not turn ordinary account closure into complete data deletion. Legal, regulatory, transaction, security, and other retention duties may continue after closure.
Which control should I choose?
- Take a Break is a temporary suspension that ends after the selected period.
- Ordinary closure closes this TAB account but may later be reactivated.
- TAB self-exclusion is the operator's formal, jurisdiction-specific exclusion.
- BetStop is a separate national exclusion across Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers.
Choose the scope and barrier that matches the protection needed. Using one control does not automatically enroll the person in every other program.
Does BetStop cover a TAB retail venue?
No. BetStop covers Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers. TAB says retail-venue exclusion uses separate state-based processes.
