This guide covers the Australian Sportsbet service operated by Sportsbet Pty Ltd. That entity appears on the current Northern Territory licensed wagering operator list. Confirm the current entity and instructions if the account belongs to another Sportsbet-branded service.

Deactivate your Sportsbet account

Open Deactivate My Account on the website

Sign in, open My Account, select Settings, then choose Deactivate My Account. Select Continue, choose the reason shown, confirm the checkboxes, then continue to finish. These are the steps on Sportsbet's current account-deactivation page.

Or use the Sportsbet app

Open More → My Account → Settings → Deactivate My Account, then follow the same reason and confirmation flow. Save the confirmation and the date you submitted it.

Do not wait for pending bets to register the control

Sportsbet says pending bets remain active after ordinary deactivation. Its current procedure does not say a reader must settle bets or withdraw every dollar before deactivating.

Do not deposit or place another wager to prepare the account. If there is a remaining Sportsbet account or Cash Card balance, the official page directs customers to call 1800 990 907 for help.

Know what ordinary deactivation does

Sportsbet says the account cannot be used while deactivated and that emails and alerts cease within 48 hours. Pending bets remain active.

Ordinary deactivation is temporary: the official closure help page says Customer Service live chat can reopen the account. If that is not a strong enough barrier, compare the exclusion controls below before choosing.

Use current support if the control fails

Sportsbet's current Help Centre lists live chat from 6 a.m. to midnight AEST. Sportsbet's current formal-complaints page publishes customerservice@sportsbet.com.au for account closure and 1800 990 907. The reviewed pages do not publish customer-service phone hours.

Ask for a secure verification route if one is required. Do not send a password, PIN, full payment details, security answer, date of birth, or an unsolicited identity document in ordinary email.

Please help me deactivate my Sportsbet account
Email body
I want to deactivate my Sportsbet account using the ordinary account closure option. I am not asking to reopen the account. The signed-in deactivation control did not complete. Please tell me the secure next step and confirm when the account has been deactivated. I can provide one account identifier through a secure verification route. I will not send a password, PIN, payment details, security answer, date of birth, or identity document in ordinary email. Thank you.

Self-exclude from Sportsbet

Take a Break lasts 1–30 days

Sportsbet's current Take a Break page describes a temporary break from 1 to 30 days. It says the break starts immediately once confirmed and cannot be reversed before the selected period ends.

The separate Take a Break help page directs signed-in customers to the safer-gambling control. Use only the periods currently displayed and save the confirmation.

Take a Break is not ordinary deactivation, long-term exclusion, lifetime exclusion, or BetStop.

Long-term Sportsbet exclusion

Sportsbet's current long-term exclusion page offers a stronger operator block from 6 months to 5 years. Current first-party pages vary slightly in how they phrase the individual choices, so use the periods displayed in the signed-in control rather than relying on a copied menu.

Read the confirmation before submitting. A long-term Sportsbet exclusion covers Sportsbet; it is not the national BetStop register.

Lifetime Sportsbet exclusion

Sportsbet's lifetime exclusion page describes a permanent operator exclusion that cannot be undone. Sportsbet says it closes all Sportsbet accounts in the person's name and prevents another Sportsbet account from being opened.

The signed-in lifetime control starts immediately once confirmed. If the signed-in control is unavailable, Sportsbet also publishes an official permanent-exclusion form. Follow the current form and send it only through the route printed on the official document. The form says exclusion is not actioned until Sportsbet confirms receipt by email or phone.

Self-Exclusion Request

Request the exclusion period and scope you want

This template is not pre-addressed. Use the platform’s current official contact route and confirm where this request should be sent.

Email body
I want to use Sportsbet's lifetime exclusion, not ordinary account deactivation or Take a Break. Please direct me to the current secure signed-in control or official form and confirm when the exclusion has taken effect across Sportsbet accounts in my name. I can provide one account identifier through a secure verification route. I will not send a password, PIN, payment details, security answer, date of birth, or identity document in an ordinary support message. Thank you.

BetStop is a separate national register

The BetStop registration guide explains the national signup, identity, duration, removal, account, and complaint boundaries. BetStop is free for people ordinarily resident in Australia. It covers Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers, not only Sportsbet. A person selects a period from three months to lifetime and completes identity verification through the official service.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority says covered providers must prevent new accounts and bets, close existing wagering accounts, and stop direct marketing during the exclusion. BetStop does not cover retail betting venues, casinos, poker-machine venues, or unlicensed services. Operator and state or territory exclusions do not automatically enroll a person in BetStop.

BetStop does not publish a fixed activation time. Its current FAQ also documents a formal removal application after at least three months, with counselling or advice and a statutory declaration; do not assume the selected period can simply be shortened.

BetStop support is 1800 238 786, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. AEST/AEDT, excluding national public holidays. Use the official signup route rather than an email template.

What self-exclusion actually does (and doesn't)

It is designed to block play for the period you choose. Whether it covers new sign-ups or can be changed early depends on the operator and jurisdiction; follow the platform-specific details above.

Do not assume self-exclusion deletes account data, stops every message, or covers other sites; exact scope varies. Consider account closure, mailbox controls, and a blocking tool as additional layers.

Stop Sportsbet emails

Sportsbet's current marketing-preferences page publishes these routes:

  • in the app, tap the balance, then open My Account → Settings → Preferences → Notifications, untick the channels you do not want, and select Save Settings;
  • use Unsubscribe in a promotional email or message; or
  • ask Customer Service at customerservice@sportsbet.com.au to stop marketing.

Sportsbet says administrative messages are not marketing and may continue. If promotional contact continues, keep one example with its date, repeat the request through a current official route, and save the confirmation. Do not include gambling history or unnecessary account details.

You can also use your mailbox's search, filter, and bulk-delete controls. Review the privacy terms and current price before granting any third-party cleanup tool access to your inbox.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sportsbet delete an account permanently?

The ordinary signed-in action is reopenable deactivation, not permanent deletion. Sportsbet publishes a separate permanent lifetime exclusion for a stronger operator-level block.

Does deactivation erase personal information?

No. Sportsbet's current privacy policy accepts personal-information deletion requests at privacy@sportsbet.com.au, but says each request is assessed against ongoing legal obligations. It also says some information must be retained for at least seven years under anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism-financing obligations. Account deactivation is not a data-erasure guarantee.

Which Sportsbet control should I use?

  • Take a Break is a 1–30 day temporary pause.
  • Ordinary deactivation closes access but can be reopened through Customer Service live chat.
  • Long-term exclusion is a Sportsbet operator block from 6 months to 5 years.
  • Lifetime exclusion is Sportsbet's permanent operator block.
  • BetStop is a separate national register covering Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers.

Choose the scope and barrier that matches the protection needed. One control does not automatically enroll a person in every other program.

What if Sportsbet does not apply the selected control?

Keep the confirmation and contact Sportsbet through the current Help Centre. Its formal-complaints page publishes complaints@sportsbet.com.au. If the issue involves BetStop compliance, use BetStop's complaint route; provider-breach complaints may be referred to ACMA.
