Choose the action that matches what you need
Betfair's regular closure can later be reviewed for reopening. Its formal self-exclusion is designed to block access for the selected period. A personal-data erasure request is separate and remains subject to legal and regulatory retention requirements.
Close your Betfair account
Protect the balance and records you need
Betfair recommends withdrawing any remaining funds before regular closure. Save references for pending withdrawals, matched or unmatched Exchange bets, or a dispute. Do not place another wager to prepare the account.
Open the logged-in closure control
Sign in and open Betfair's official Close My Account instructions. Follow the link to the closure page, complete the prompts, enter the account password, and confirm.
Keep confirmation of the account status
Save the confirmation or reference. Betfair describes regular closure as reopenable through Customer Service, so use formal self-exclusion as well when you need a defined access barrier.
Regular closure does not promise that every personal record is erased. Betfair's closure guide documents a separate qualified data-erasure request. It says the right is not absolute and that Betfair may retain information where the law requires it.

Self-exclude from Betfair
Open My Account → Account Details → Safer Gambling Tools → Self Exclusion. Betfair's current self-exclusion guide says the account remains closed for a minimum of six months and cannot be reactivated during the selected period.
Betfair's official pages currently publish different lists of available periods. Use the options shown in the signed-in account or ask Customer Service to confirm the selected start and end dates. Do not rely on an old list copied elsewhere.
If there are Exchange bets when the exclusion starts:
- unmatched bets are cancelled and the stake returns to the account balance;
- matched or partly matched bets stand; and
- Customer Service arranges the return of available funds, where possible to an active card within ten working days.
Self-Exclusion Request
Request the exclusion period and scope you want
This template is not pre-addressed. Use the platform’s current official contact route and confirm where this request should be sent.
- Use the current official Betfair contact route
- Keep a copy of the request and response for your records
Betfair's current terms describe cross-brand matching for some all-product self-exclusions, while its help pages warn that not every safer-gambling tool automatically applies to another Flutter account. Confirm each account rather than assuming coverage. UK residents who want the separate national online block can use the reviewed GAMSTOP registration guide.
After a temporary exclusion ends, Betfair currently directs customers to its Safer Gambling Team for review. A permanent operator exclusion is not reopened. The published review number is +44 808 812 7174, open 8am–8:45pm, seven days a week.
What self-exclusion actually does (and doesn't)
It is designed to block play for the period you choose. Whether it covers new sign-ups or can be changed early depends on the operator and jurisdiction; follow the platform-specific details above.
Do not assume self-exclusion deletes account data, stops every message, or covers other sites; exact scope varies. Consider account closure, mailbox controls, and a blocking tool as additional layers.
Stop Betfair emails
Use the unsubscribe control in a current message where available, or open Betfair's current Customer Service contact route and ask it to stop direct gambling marketing. Necessary account, security, legal, or safer-gambling communications may continue.
Marketing removal, regular closure, self-exclusion, and a personal-data request are separate actions.
You can also use your mailbox's search, filter, and bulk-delete controls. Review the privacy terms and current price before granting any third-party cleanup tool access to your inbox.
Frequently asked questions
Can a regularly closed Betfair account be reopened?
Betfair says regular closure is designed to allow a later reopening request through Customer Service. Reopening is not the same as the end of a formal self-exclusion.
Does Betfair self-exclusion cover every Flutter account?
Do not assume that it does. Current Betfair sources describe cross-brand matching for some all-product exclusions but also warn that safer-gambling tools do not always apply automatically across brands. Confirm every relevant account and consider GAMSTOP for separate Great Britain-licensed online coverage.
Is five years the maximum GAMSTOP period?
No. GAMSTOP currently offers 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or an optional 5-year auto-renewal choice. The national guide explains how the minimum period, auto-renewal, and later removal differ.
Is Betfair licensed for remote gambling in Great Britain?
The current
Gambling Commission register
lists several active businesses trading as Betfair on betfair.com. Licence
status does not guarantee a closure, balance, or service outcome.
