Online Play closure is not deletion
This guide covers the North Carolina Education Lottery's Online Play account, not retail tickets or sports betting accounts. Its account FAQ says verified Online Play accounts can be disabled, not deactivated; NCEL does not delete accounts. A basic Lucke-Rewards deactivation is a different action.
If you need to block access now, go straight to self-exclusion below and ask support to resolve money questions afterward. You do not need to keep gambling while waiting. US help and support elsewhere are available separately from the operator.
Close your NC Lottery Online Play account
Close or disable Online Play
Call 1-866-934-0289, the closure route in the Online Play FAQ. The official help page lists phone support 24/7, chat and customersupport@mail.nclottery.com. The closure instruction specifically names the phone line.
Stop recurring purchases
Under My Account → Draw Games → Auto-Renew, choose Cancel Auto Renewal for each active renewal. Review Upcoming Draws and save relevant records privately. The FAQ separates cancellation of renewals from purchased tickets.
Check money and outstanding draws
Eligible prize winnings are withdrawable; deposits generally are not. Purchases are final and nonrefundable. Ask support how future-draw prizes will reach you after sign-in is disabled. That process is not documented in the reviewed sources; do not assume automatic payment or cancellation.
Ask for closure and confirmation
Ask Player Support to close or disable Online Play and confirm the resulting account status. No fixed completion time or ordinary reopening procedure was verified. Never send passwords or full payment details; use an official secure route if identity verification is needed.
The terms discuss return of funds under NCEL-initiated termination, subject to withholding. That is not a general refund promise for voluntary closure. Ask support about any disputed balance; closing an account does not establish that an amount owed has disappeared.

Self-exclude from NC Lottery Online Play
Self-exclusion and Cool-Off are different
For formal exclusion, use My Account → Self-Exclusion, choose a period, submit and confirm YES, or call support. The protection overview describes options from one month to permanent. The exclusion rules block sign-in and participation in Online Play, Lucke-Rewards, second-chance drawings and promotions. You cannot reverse the exclusion during its term. After a non-permanent period ends, access can resume with the existing credentials.
Online Play exclusion does not cover North Carolina sports betting. The FAQ distinguishes that separate program. No withdrawal-access promise is made while sign-in is blocked. Ask support about the wallet and any already-purchased draws; do not delay protection to settle them.
A Cool-Off is a shorter break: My Account → Cool-Off, then 24 hours, 3, 7, 15 or 30 days. It blocks online play and deposits while allowing sign-in and withdrawals. Do not apply those access rules to formal self-exclusion.
What self-exclusion actually does (and doesn't)
It is designed to block play for the period you choose. Whether it covers new sign-ups or can be changed early depends on the operator and jurisdiction; follow the platform-specific details above.
Do not assume self-exclusion deletes account data, stops every message, or covers other sites; exact scope varies. Consider account closure, mailbox controls, and a blocking tool as additional layers.
Stop NC Lottery Online Play emails
Separate optional newsletters from other account emails
The terms allow opt-outs from optional promotional material and newsletters through email/text instructions or account Preferences. However, a separate account-email clause says discontinuing messages NCEL thinks may interest members requires deactivation. Verified Online Play accounts are disabled rather than deactivated, so ask support which account messages can stop; preferences are not a promise to stop every promotional message.
The Online Play FAQ says transaction emails cannot be opted out of. Do not block all messages if you still need account or prize correspondence. No guaranteed suppression deadline was verified.
You can also use your mailbox's search, filter, and bulk-delete controls. Review the privacy terms and current price before granting any third-party cleanup tool access to your inbox.
Frequently asked questions
Does closing the account erase its records?
No deletion promise is made. The privacy policy allows retention of voluntarily supplied information and says some records may be subject to public-records law, with legal protections and exceptions. It does not publish a fixed account-retention period or guaranteed erasure process. Ask support what records remain and how to make a privacy request.
What if I cannot use the account controls?
Use the official support contact above and state which action you want: ordinary closure, formal self-exclusion or a marketing opt-out. These requests are not interchangeable. Do not sign into someone else's account or send account documents to an unverified website.
